DESCRIPTION:Prescribed Burn Crew Member Training\nSaturday, May 4 – 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.\nLocation: Chester Woods Parkin Olmsted County\nA Prairie Enthusiasts prescribed burn crew member training event will take place on May 4th at Chester Woods Park in Olmsted County, MN, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.  This will be the classroom component of The Prairie Enthusiasts prescribed burn crew member training, a separate equipment field training event will be scheduled for a yet-to-be-determined date.\nCourse topics for the classroom component will include fire ecology, the use of prescribed fire in land management, prescribed burning techniques, safety and PPE, prescribed burn plans, and equipment.  Class content will be focused on relatively small (1-50 acres) prescribed burns commonly conducted in the Upper Midwest for the restoration and management of prairies and savannas, with an emphasis on the use of hand tools.\nThe equipment field training component will occur at a yet to be determined date and will allow participants to learn about and practice the use of various hand tools commonly used for relatively small (1-50 acres) prescribed burns in the Upper Midwest.\nCompleting both components is required to obtain certification of completion of The Prairie Enthusiasts’ prescribed burn crew member training.\nIf you’d like to participate in the May 4th classroom component of the training, send an email to Patty Trinka (patty.trnka@prodigy.net) to get on the registration list.  The class has a maximum capacity of 20 people so register with Patty soon before the class is full.  Once you register, Patty will provide you with more information about the class, including where in the park the class will be held.\n
