SUMMARY:Insect Day!
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an Insect Day at Prairie Haven!\nSaturday, June 29 – 9:00 a.m.\nLocation: S1287 WI-88, Alma, WI 54610\nMap ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/NzWvKnN8QBai7L9c8 )\nNote: Marcie requests that we drive slowly on the driveway and watch for butterflies. There are lots of butterflies on the driveway in June and she hates squashing them.\nPrairie Haven is the lovingly restored 420-acre farm in Buffalo County by Marcie and Mike O’Connor.\nThis tour of the farm will be insect-focused. Marcie is an avid insect enthusiast and hosts annual gatherings for National Moth Week and conduct an annual Butterfly Count. On our tour, we will see how many insects we can find, photograph and identify. One goal is to see the association between plants and the bugs that live on them.\nSchedule\n\n\n9am – noon: Meet for a hike at Prairie Haven in Buffalo County.\n\nWander through the woods and then up a hill to an area with remnant prairie, restored savanna and planted prairie. Along the way enjoy seeing caterpillars, leaf miners, butterflies, beetles and spiders.\n\n\n12:00 – 1pm: Eat / socialize.  Leave your lunches at the house and Mike will bring them out when we are ready for them. You can also bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.\n\n\n\n\n1:00 – 2:00: Hike the prairie looking for more insects\n\n \n\nWhat to Bring\n\nBring your lunch. We will eat out on the trail at a nice spot with a good view and places to sit on the grass. Leave your lunches at the house and Mike will bring them out when we are ready for them. You can also bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.\numbrellas/hats\nbinoculars\ncameras\ninsect repellent and/or gnat net\nclose-toed shoes\nlong pants\nsunscreen\nwater for the whole day\n\n \nLevel of Difficulty\nMost of the walking will be flat, but there’s one steep hill up and then back down.  If you who don’t feel comfortable walking it, Mike can drive you up.\nQuestions?\nCall Marcie at 651-645-2043\n
