COST $130\nThe Southwest Chapter of The Prairie Enthusiasts is offering SAWW Chainsaw Safety Class Level 1.\nThis course is certified through the Safety and Woods Working (SAWW) training program and is part of a four-level series designed to increase safety and efficiency of chainsaw use.Women are encouraged to take this class!\n\n\n\n\nParticipants in Level 1 training will spend most of the morning in the classroom, and the remainder of the day outside practicing techniques to operate chainsaws safely, comfortably and productively.\nTopics covered include:\n• Personal protective equipment (PPE)\n• Body mechanics and situational awareness\n• Chainsaw safety features\n• Parts of the cutter tooth, and reactive forces\n• Planning, executing tree felling: Intro to the Felling Five plan\n• Planning, executing limbing and bucking: Understanding Compression &amp; Tension\nLevel 1 introduces the participant to bore cutting and open face felling and develops the mechanics to execute these techniques. Hands-on training gives participants the opportunity to fell or limb at least one tree.\nEach participant must wear a safety helmet. Participants are encouraged to bring all PPE (helmet, eye protection, ear protection, chainsaw protective chaps, suitable footwear and gloves), chainsaw and any tools used to maintain the saw and sharpen chain. There will be limited extra helmets, chaps and other PPE to share.\nLunch: bring a bag lunch, (snacks and water provided)\nInstructor: Luke Saunders, Forester with Blue Heron Stewardship LLC, SAWW certified trainer, experienced sawyer and horse-logger\nFor more information, contact: Deb Pavick at dpavick@me.com\n\n
