DESCRIPTION:Removing Brush at Postage Stamp Prairie with Cowling Arboretum\nSaturday, October 19 – 9:00 a.m. to Noon\nLocation: Postage Stamp Prairie, Northfield\n\nHelp maintain a tiny example of original Minnesota prairie by removing brush. The Postage Stamp Prairie at Carleton College in Northfield is the only remaining natural prairie in the 800 acre Cowling Arboretum; all the other Arboretum prairies have been replanted into former farmland. The Postage Stamp Prairie is small, less then an acre, but mighty, and is a diverse site with many native species and has been under management for years. Even so, brush control is ongoing and the site could use your help! This is a joint event with Arboretum Volunteers and The Prairie Enthusiasts.\n\n\n \n\nWHAT TO BRING:\nArboretum staff will provide needed gloves, tools, and herbicide but bring your own favorite clipper and gloves if you prefer. Bring a snack and beverage especially if you want to stay and enjoy the diverse restored prairies nearby.\nWORK PARTY LEADER AND DIRECTIONS:\nPlease sign up at the Arboretum Volunteer Event Registration web page so we can let you know of any changes to the project or schedule – this project would be re-scheduled if raining. We’ll meet at the bridge over Spring Creek in the Upper Arboretum along the paved trail, just down the hill from the Arboretum entrance at Oak and Second Streets, near the Carleton Tennis Courts.
