DESCRIPTION:Eldred Prairie Work Party and Lunch\nSaturday, February 1 – 9:00 a.m. to Noon\nLocation: Eldred Prairie, Lancaster, WI\n\nWe would love to have you join us to keep up the momentum! The event will take place on Saturday, February 1st, and will run from 9:00 AM until noon.\nIt is not all work, however…when the work is finished, join a group of us for lunch and social time at the Coffee Tree in Lancaster.\nWe have made enormous steps in clearing out the thicket that has dominated the back corner at Eldred Prairie near Lancaster. First, two days of forestry mowing took out a significant part of the thicket. There were areas of steep terrain that the forestry mower could not reach. Volunteers have been working with chain saws and brush cutters to remove the remaining thicket. It is going well, and your help will enable us to complete the job.\nThe goal is to transform the area from impenetrable honeysuckle, berry bushes and other scrub into a prairie with scattered oak trees. Please bring any chain saws and brush cutters you have. If you have none, we need volunteers to drag and stack what is cut. There is a place for everyone.\n \n\n\nWHAT TO BRING:\nHerbicide will be provided but please bring your saw. And if you are without a saw, we need people to stack brush and to regale us with stories.\nWORK PARTY LEADER:\n\nContact Bob Costanza ( mailto:bobcostanza@gmail.com ) (608) 320-9182 to RSVP and if you have questions, or to check on the weather status.\nDIRECTIONS:\nEldred Prairie is located on Lincoln Road just east of Lancaster.\nThe easiest way to get there is by way of Highway 129, the highway that diverts Highway 61 traffic around the east side of Lancaster.\nFrom the north, Lincoln Road is approximately 1 ½ miles south from the north intersection of 61 and 129. From the south, it is about 1 mile north of the south intersection of 61 and 129.\nDrive east on Lincoln Road for about 2 miles. Eldred is on the north side of the road and is obviously a conservation area. The entrance gate is at the east end of the property at the top of the hill.\n
