DESCRIPTION:Moely Prairie Hike\nSaturday, July 12 – 9:00 a.m. to Noon\nLocation: Moely Prairie in Prairie du Sac, WI\n\nPlease join us as we tour remnant Moely Prairie which stands as a precious remnant of the vast 14,000 acres of prairie that once blanketed the Sauk Prairie area in Wisconsin. Through the dedicated efforts of volunteers with The Prairie Enthusiasts, this ecological treasure is being carefully restored to its natural splendor. Native grasses sway in the breeze, creating a mesmerizing tapestry of movement across the landscape. Rare prairie wildflowers dot the terrain with bursts of color throughout the growing season, providing crucial habitat for pollinators and wildlife. Despite being surrounded by development, Moely Prairie offers visitors a quiet sanctuary where they can disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with nature. Educational programs held on the prairie help future generations understand the ecological importance of these vanishing ecosystems. The restoration process involves meticulous removal of invasive species and controlled burns that mimic the natural cycles that sustained prairies for millennia. Bird watchers are rewarded with sightings of grassland species that have become increasingly rare as their habitat disappears elsewhere. Walking the paths of Moely Prairie, one can imagine how the landscape appeared to the first European settlers who encountered the vast sea of grasses and flowers stretching to the horizon. This small but vital prairie serves as both a living museum of Wisconsin’s natural heritage and a beacon of hope for conservation efforts throughout the Midwest.\n \n\n\nWHAT TO BRING:\nThere is very little shade on the property so a water bottle will come in handy.
