SUMMARY:GLACIAL PRAIRIE WORK PARTY
DESCRIPTION:Neda Mine Work Day\nSaturday, July 19 – 9:00 a.m. to Noon\nLocation: Neda Mine, Dodge County, WI\n\nCome help with this very important work day!\nNeda Mine is one of the most important bat hibernacula sites in the Midwest- and is used by little brown bats, big brown bats, northern long-eared bats, and tricolored bats (formerly called eastern pipistrelles).\nIn 2015, the fungus that causes white-nose syndrome (WNS) was detected at this site. WNS caused a severe decline in cave bat populations in the state since its arrival. The WI DNR has been monitoring the populations to watch for signs of recovery- and many bats still use the Neda Mine site.\nWork will likely include removing woody stems/brush, parsnip, and burdock, as well as whatever other site improvements will make the site better for the bats.\nDIFFICULTY LEVEL: Moderate (hilly terrain)\n\n\nWHAT TO BRING:\nCome dressed for the weather and brush removal, and be sure to bring water. Long pants, long sleeves, work gloves, and boots are best for parsnip work. You do not need to bring tools, but you can ask Nancy if you have something you would like to bring.\n\nWORK PARTY LEADER:\nPlease contact Nancy Gloe via email ngloe1@wi.rr.com ( mailto:ngloe1@wi.rr.com ). Please RSVP to receive notice of cancellation or other changes.\nDIRECTIONS:\nYou must RSVP to receive an email with the location and access instructions.\n
