SUMMARY:COULEE REGION AND FRIENDS OF THE BLUFFLANDS FIELD TRIP
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the Rockland Railroad Prairies\nSaturday, September 20 – 10:00 a.m. to Noon\n\nLocation: RR Crossing on Hwy J in Rockland, WI\n\nThis field trip immediately follows the short and sweet morning work day (see details HERE ( https://theprairieenthusiasts.org/events/coulee-region-2025-09-20/ )). After the workday, we will explore the railroad remnant by hiking or biking. Using bikes will allow us to cover more of the trail. Asters and goldenrods will be blooming, and we’ll look for the Downy and Bottled gentian found at the site. The site is completely flat. There is an informational kiosk there and the area had prairie species added by the past trail ranger, Jayne Collins. Our chapter has also added a few species to the area that has a little trail through it. This is the location that naturalist Bob Lee led up to ten hikes a year for many years before his passing in 2012.\nWHAT TO BRING:\nWater, sturdy shoes, and dress for the weather.
