DESCRIPTION:Cutting and Treating, Seed Collecting\nSunday, October 22 – 9:00 a.m. to Noon \nLocation: Eldred Prairie\nAt Eldred we will be working with UW Platteville students who are members of the Reclamation Club. We will be doing a variety of things in order to give them as broad an exposure as possible. We will also be giving them an opportunity to tour the site and learn about it.\nThe reclamation program at UW-Platteville, initiated in 1980, is presently the oldest four-year reclamation major in the United States. The program is strongly grounded in the field sciences. In addition to the traditional sciences of biology, geology, chemistry and ecology, the reclamation program includes courses in communication, civil engineering, agriculture, soil science, environmental law and GIS. In order to better reflect changes in the program and curriculum, the name was changed to the Reclamation, Environment and Conservation (REC) program in the early 2000s.\nThe Reclamation Club is a club that is designed to help students studying Reclamation at UW-Platteville gain exposure to the field of reclamation. The Reclamation Club is a great way for students grasp real world experience for reclamation and participate in reclamation projects prior to graduation.\nWHAT TO BRING/WEAR:\nBring chainsaws, brush cutters, loppers, chemical applicators and buckets in which to collect seed.\nWORK PARTY LEADER:\nJack Kussmaul EMAIL ( MAILTO:jack.kussmaul@gmail.com )\nDIRECTIONS:\nEldred Prairie is located on Lincoln Road, east of Lancaster, WI. The easiest way to get there is from Highway 129. Highway 129 is the bypass that runs north and south just east of Lancaster, diverting traffic from Highway 61. If coming from the north, Lincoln Road is aa few miles south of the intersection with Highway 61. Coming from the south, it is approximately 1 mile from the intersection of Highway 61 to Lincoln Road. Turn east on Lincoln Road. Eldred Prairie is just over 2 miles on Lincoln Road. It is on the north side of the road and is obviously a natural area. The entrance to drive in is at the eastern end of the property.\n
