DESCRIPTION:Brush Removal\nTuesday, March 5 – 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.\nLocation: Rattlesnake Ridge Sand Barrens\nCome help expand our lupine hills by clearing invasive scrub oak. We will be burning the brush as we work. Our November burn left a few pockets of unburned area where we will be able to cut and treat more oak before burning those areas this spring. Help now, and return in May to see the lupine in bloom!\nThe 40-acre sand barrens is a unique ecosystem of the lower terraces of the Wisconsin River valley. Eighty-foot depth of sand creates habitat for dry prairie plants, including Pennsylvania sedge, June grass, lupine, sand puccoon, butterfly weed, goat’s rue, and prickly pear; and for birds, including redheaded woodpeckers (and all the others!), whippoorwills, and grassland sparrows.\nSnacks in the field will be provided.\nWhat to Bring/Wear: Loppers and chemical provided, but your favorite tools are welcome. Bring gloves/clothes appropriate for piling brush and burning. Safety glasses suggested.
