Weaver Dunes Volunteer Day: Collect Native Plant Seeds!
Saturday, October 11 – 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Location: Weaver Dunes Field Station in Kellogg, MN
There will be another seed collection day at Weaver Dunes. It is a fabulous sand prairie and worth a visit.
Possible ready seeds:
-Leadplant!
-Blazing Stars!
-Prairie Clovers!
-Snake Cotton!
-Bush Clover!
-Big AND Little Bluestem!
-Silky Prairie Aster!
Alerts:
-Poison Ivy grows in many places around the preserve and while we will try to avoid it, no promises can be made
-Dogs are not allowed on the Preserve
-Snakes are a likely encounter at Weaver Dunes
We will cancel in the event of:
-Heat index over 90 degrees
-Lightning
-Rain
DIFFICULTY: Mobility needed including bending/kneeling to plant height- as small as 1 foot off the ground, slow walking totaling up to a mile or three.
WHAT TO BRING:
Please bring a lunch/snacks, rain jacket/appropriate clothing for the weather (long pants and socks, sturdy shoes or rain boots you can tuck your pants into, sun hat/sunglasses), carabiners or belts, bungee cords etc. to attach to our pants for seed receptacles.
