The Prairie Enthusiasts started with a group of concerned citizen volunteers with a passion to protect our native prairie communities. That volunteer spirit and commitment continues to grow.

A special Thank You to all of the volunteers who have given their time and energy over and over again to help The Prairie Enthusiasts preserve our precious prairie remnants. The Prairie Enthusiasts continues to rely on volunteer power to carry out its mission.

Come to an event

If you are interested in local prairie conservation, there are lots of ways to get involved – many of these are listed in our Events Calendar.

Become a volunteer

Everyone is invited to help manage our prairies, whether you’re a first-timer or a regular volunteer. From conducting prescribed burns in the spring, to weeding out invasive plants, transitioning to seed collecting through the fall, to winter brush clearing, there is always something to be done out on the prairie. Volunteering at a Work Party is a great way to visit some of The Prairie Enthusiasts most special sites, while helping with stewardship activities that keep the prairies healthy and thriving.

Give back to the community

Do you have a church or school group, class or scout troop that wants to do volunteer work in your community? Do you want to engage your co-workers or employees in a volunteer work day to benefit the community? We have lots of opportunities where your group can help us make a big impact!

Other ways to help

Maybe you enjoy planning events, or sharing your prairie enthusiasm with others. Assisting with educational or fundraising events, or serving on the Board or a Committee may be of interest to you. Perhaps you would like to get involved with conducting site inventories, monitoring, research or field trips. Your enthusiasm and contribution of time truly make the difference!
