Aspen Clearing Workday, Lunch and Property Exploration

Workday portion: 9:30 a.m. to Noon
Lunch and exploring the property: Noon to 2:00 p.m.
Location: Ghei Property on the edge of Red Wing, MN
We’ve been helping Gita Ghei restore and manage her property on the edge of Red Wing since 2023 and we can help some more on July 12th of this year. Our previous efforts have included battling buckthorn, putting in firebreaks, and controlling aspen that is invading a CRP field planted with a pollinator seed mix.
Please considering meeting to assist a 20-year old CRP pollinator habitat bluff top prairie! We will gather to clip and treat multitudes of colonizing aspen that are encroaching the edges of this sky filled field, focusing on 1/2″ sprouts. The owner plans to burn the smallest of these in the coming spring.
WHAT TO BRING:
If you have hand pruners, clippers, HD scissors or loppers you can bring, please do so, but there will be some available for those who don’t have any. Other things to bring include work gloves, a hat to keep the sun off your face, sunscreen, insect repellent, plenty of hydrating liquids, and snacks to keep you energized. Owner will provide the chemical in small bottles for you.
Lunch will be provided during a break!
WORK PARTY LEADER AND DIRECTIONS:
If you’re interested in participating, please email your RSVP to Gita Ghei (gitag66@yahoo.com) as soon as possible and she’ll give you directions to the site and will need a headcount for lunch. Along with your RSVP, please let Gita know if you have or do not have clippers to bring. If there’s a last-minute change in plans because of the weather, only the people who sent their RSVP to Gita will be notified. You can also send Gita any questions you have about the work day or about getting to the parking place she’ll be waiting to meet us at.
