This preserve harbors more than 200 native plant species, including several state-endangered, threatened and special concern species.
Access & Directions
From Spring Green, head east on Rainbow Rd. Turn right onto WI-60 E. Then turn left on Round River Trail.

What Makes Foxglove Savanna Special
Oak savannas like this one, once dominated southern Wisconsin; however, very few examples of this native plant community remain today. Though small, this habitat showcases a prime example of what was once a vast landscape.

How was Foxglove Savanna Protected
This property was protected by The Prairie Enthusiasts in 2007, but work on this site began long before that. For twenty years prior to the closing, The Prairie Enthusiasts and the Aldo Leopold Foundation worked together to restore this rare habitat.
The Prairie Enthusiasts acquired the land from Charles Russell and Jeb and Barb Barzen. The Barzens donated five acres, which enabled us to puruse additional funding through Wisconsin’s Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund to purchase an additional five acres from Charles.
