ST CROIX VALLEY FIELD TRIP
Tour of private prairie
Carl Nelson has invited us to join him and Dan Carter on a tour of his property. Highlights:
- Sand prairie remnants
- 20-year old and new CRP (50+ acres)
- Hillside oak savanna remnant
- Open White Oak Woodlands
Date: July 22 (Saturday)
Time: 2pm – 4:00pm
Location: W3201 160th Ave, Maiden Rock, WI 54750
Bring:
- Drinking water (it may get hot)
- Bring shoes and clothes for walking in woods
- Hat (it may get hot)
- Camera (get a great picture of flowers)
- Binoculars (might see some birds)
Level of difficulty: there is a 200 foot vertical drop on the trail; we will walk back up. Total walking distance 1-1.5 miles, but there’s also plenty to see for those who want to skip the hike.
