Come and join us for a chapter potluck picnic!

Anyone and everyone is invited: new members, active members, less-active members, prospective members, friends & family…you get the point.

Get to know your fellow prairie enthusiasts, exchange stories, get advice, relax, and take a tour of the savanna.

Seed exchange — if you have extra seeds you have collected, bring them and exchange with others.

Bring a dish to pass (salads, chips, cheese, relish, tomatoes, desserts, etc.).  We will provide

  • Ham
  • Vegetarian lasagna
  • Lemonade, beer (including non-alcohol) and ice water
  • Plates, napkins, and cutlery and cups

The ice water will be in a jug so bring a water bottle.

★★★ Let Evanne know if you can come so we know how much food and chairs we need. ★★★  at 715-381-1291 or evanne.hunt@outlook.com

Why is Alexander special?

The 43-acre Alexander oak savanna is owned by TPE.  It is the best example of the dry prairie and oak savanna remnants in the Western Prairie Ecological Landscape.

We have identified 120 native species on the site, including buffalo bean, kittentails, and prairie turnip, all threatened or special concern in Wisconsin. Previously documented but yet to be rediscovered at the site are the endangered species Carolina anemone (Anemone caroliniana) and prairie bushclover (Lespedeza leptostachya).

The prairie turnip was a new discovery in 2018, showing promise for the possible rediscover of the prairie bushclover and Carolina anemone with further site management.

  • If you help collect see, you need to complete a volunteer form (liability).
  • Bring a hat and drinking water for yourself.

Questions:  contact Alex Bouthilet at 715-294-0340

The event is finished.
