Black Earth Rettenmund Prairie Work Party

Saturday, May 13th – 9:00 AM to Noon

Location: Black Earth Rettenmund Prairie

Welcome to another season of working to keep Black Earth Prairie in good shape! We’ll be working either in the unburned north unit on brush that has waited all winter for our return, or possibly in the saddle or south units, to catch the early weeds.

Come and help this wonderful prairie. Black Earth Prairie is one of the finest prairie remnants in this area, but like all good things, it needs help to stay super good. And there will be some early flowers to reward us—Birds foot violets, wood betony—we shall see. It’s a wonderful prairie!

And, oh yes, there will be snacks!

Willis and I hope to see you at Black Earth on Saturday, May 13! Bring a friend if you have one who thinks this would be fun! Thanks!

Hat, gloves, long pants, and sturdy shoes or boots, bug spray. Oh yes, a jacket, too… ya’ never know….  Also, sharp eyes— the better to see the weeds with. Clippers and herbicide provided as needed. And snacks!

Willis Brown, 608-316-5411 (cell) and 608-278-9308 (landline); and Kathie Brock, 608-220-0590 (cell).

From the intersection of US Hwy 14 and County F in Black Earth, follow F west out of town, then south when it separates from KP. Take your first right on Fesenfeld Road and go about 0.1 mile to the Prairie entrance. Park along the north side of the road, off the pavement.
