EMPIRE-SAUK: WORK PARTY

Cattail Removal

Sunday, August 27 – 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Location: Mounds View Grasslands

Up to five people are needed to find, cut, and treat the stems of cattail in the various wetland restorations at Shea Prairie and elsewhere at Mounds View.  To keep these wetlands from being taken over by invasive cattails, we have been systematically eliminating them for the past several years.   Thanks to many people pitching in, they are almost all gone.  Your help is critical to finding and removing the last few individuals, maybe 10-30 scattered across various patches of wetlands, where they have been found in the past.  The work will not involve much cutting and treating.  It will involve mostly searching.WHAT TO BRING:

Bring gloves, long pants, long-sleeved shirt, rubber boots (shin high), water, and hat.  These items are a necessity in doing this type of activity.

DIRECTIONS:

Meet at Shea Pr parking lot, 3095 Mounds View Rd, Barneveld.  From US Highway 18/151, a mile and a half west of Blue Mounds, turn south on Mounds View Road.  Proceed on Mounds View for 2.5 miles to where it joins briefly with Prairie Grove Rd.  Stay with Mounds View and go another 0.7 miles.  Look for the kiosk and parking lot on the left.

WORK PARTY LEADER:
