SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN WORK PARTY
Removing Oak Grubs
Saturday, August 12 – 9:00 AM to Noon
Location: Eldred Prairie
We will be continuing our battle against the oak grubs that were once threatening to take over the front side of the property. This is a battle, I should add, that we are decisively winning. There is much work to be done before we declare final victory. Depending on time and numbers we may also go after other woody growth as well.
After our last work party we adjourned for a patio lunch in Lancaster and I will join those who may wish to do the same this time.
WHAT TO BRING:
For the oak grubs we hope to have two people on handheld brush cutters cutting off the grubs with people following with spray bottles treating the stems. For other woody growth, we will use loppers. While we will have some extra spray bottles and loppers, please bring what you have to make sure we do not come out short. We will provide the herbicide.
DIRECTIONS:
If you are not familiar with Eldred, here is how to find it.
Eldred Prairie is located on Lincoln Road, east of Lancaster, WI.
The easiest way to get there is from Highway 129. Highway 129 is the bypass that runs north and south just east of Lancaster, diverting traffic from Highway 61.
If coming from the north, Lincoln Road is approximately 1 % miles south of the intersection with Highway 61. Coming from the south, it is approximately 1 mile from the intersection of Highway 61 to Lincoln Road.
Turn east on Lincoln Road. Eldred Prairie is just over 2 miles on Lincoln Road. It is on the north side of the road and is obviously a natural area. The entrance to drive in is at the eastern end of the property.
