SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN WORK PARTY

Tree and Brush Removal

Saturday, February 3 – 9:00 a.m. to Noon

Location: Eldred Prairie

You are welcome to join us for all or part. We will follow the work party with some social time over lunch in Lancaster.

We have made great strides at Eldred in the last couple of years and this will continue the process. We plan to attack the thicket at the northwest corner of the property. This will involve the use of chain saws, brush cutters and loppers. We should be able to find enough dead wood to get a burn pile started. Once it is going, we should be able to stack and burn everything, what is still green. I think we all enjoy burning and the warm flames in winter are especially welcome. We will be treating the cut stumps with herbicide to prevent regrowth.

WHAT TO BRING:

Bring whatever tools you have. We will be using chain saws, brush cutters, loppers and herbicide applicators. Herbicide will be provided by the chapter.

WORK PARTY LEADER:

Because winter weather can be quite uncertain, and the day could bring subzero cold or blizzard conditions. If there is any question about the work party taking place, you may contact Jack Kussmaul by phone, text or EMAIL at:

DIRECTIONS:

Eldred Prairie is located on Lincoln Road, east of Lancaster, WI.

The easiest way to get there is from Highway 129. Highway 129 is the bypass that runs north and south just east of Lancaster, diverting traffic from Highway 61.

If coming from the north, Lincoln Road is approximately 1% miles south of the intersection with Highway 61. Coming from the south, it is approximately 1 mile from the intersection of Highway 61 to Lincoln Road.

Turn east on Lincoln Road. Eldred Prairie is just over 2 miles on Lincoln Road. It is on the north side of the road and is obviously a natural area. The entrance to drive in is at the eastern end of the property.

The event is finished.
