GLACIAL PRAIRIE: PEARL FORAGE FEN WORK PARTY
Pearl Forage Fen Work Party
Saturday, October 10 – 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Location: Pearl Forage Fen in Waukesha County, WI
This is a high quality fen that supports many fen specialists and rare species, but it did not begin receiving management until recently. Last fall the Glacial Prairie Chapter burned a portion where work some brush removal has occurred, and we hope to burn it again this upcoming burn season.
This work party will likely involve cutting large buckthorn and treating stumps, and more tedious treatment of small buckthorn. We may also collect some seeds that are appropriate for a small portion of fen at the Mukwonago River Oak Barrens that was cleared this last summer.
WHAT TO BRING:
Rubber boots, long sleeves, long pants, and hats should be worn. Take preferred precautions against mosquitos and ticks. Safety glasses and work gloves are needed, but we have extras.
WORK PARTY LEADER:
RSVP and contact Dan Carter via email at dlcarterksu@gmail.com. Only RSVPs will get updates on cancellations or other changes.
DIRECTIONS:
The entrance is HERE.
The entrance drive angles right and goes downhill. Shortly past a house on the right, you turn left down a grassy lane to a mowed area next to a small pond and park there (pin on map HERE).
