MINNESOTA DRIFTLESS FIELD TRIP

Minnesota Prairie Hike

Sunday, June 2 – 10:00 a.m. to Noon

Location: Mound Prairie Scientific Natural Area, near Hokah, MN

Our annual spring field trip to Mound Prairie SNA is back by popular demand! We don’t have all the details worked out such as the start time, so at this point just put a placeholder on your calendar and we’ll get back to you shortly with all the rest you’ll need to know.

Just as in past years, Scott Leddy will lead the field trip and share his extensive knowledge about bluff prairie plants and insects.

The level of difficulty will be easy-moderate at the base of the bluff, but difficult on the bluff itself where the slope is very steep and the footing can be unstable. We’ll start at the base of the bluff and spend some time on the easy-moderate stuff, and when we head up the steep slope people are welcome to continue exploring the area at the base of the bluff.

WHAT TO BRING:

If you plan to attend, wear clothing appropriate for the season, including sturdy footwear suitable for the hike on the bluff. Ticks are out so take necessary precautions, and bring your preferred hydrating fluids and snacks to keep you happy. Sunscreen would probably be good too.

The event is finished.

    Hello –

I’d like to participate in this tour (in spite of the long drive…). I see photos by others from here – looks like a spectacular place!

I’ve not been there before and this MN DNR SNA map show 2 parcels and 2 parking lots for this SNA – can you please clarify where the tour starts? https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/snas/detail.html?id=sna01059#maps

    Thanks!
