Thomas Tract Brush Clearing Workday

Tuesday, January 7 – 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Location: Thomas Tract, Barneveld, WI

We have made great progress with weed management at Thomas Tract, fighting Burnett’s Saxifrage over the past several years. Now it is time to focus on brush removal to benefit grassland species. We will be removing brush and trees with power equipment and hand tools while preserving prickly ash and native plum thickets.

WHAT TO BRING:

Dress for the weather. We may actively burn piles if there is snow present. Bring gloves and appropriate clothing for working around fire (natural fiber and old enough that you will not mind getting an occasional small burn hole from embers). I will bring cookies.

LOCATION:

Address is 7352 Mellum Rd., Arena, WI. From Highway 14 just west of Arena, turn south on Highway H. Go 2.5 miles and turn left/east on Mellum Road. In 0.2 miles, turn left at the first driveway you come to. Park at the end on the left or along the driveway. Do not block the neighbors who share the driveway. The blue house is the neighbor’s house.
