EMPIRE SAUK CHAPTER WORK DAY

Rattlesnake Ridge “Snip & Drip”

Tuesday, March 21st – 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Please join us at Rattlesnake Ridge Sand Barrens to cut and treat invasive black oak sprouts on the sand barrens. Ever persistent black oaks are trying to reclaim the open barrens. We will be cutting and treating one-year stems that sprouted after our spring 2022 prescribed burn.

The 40-acre sand barrens is a unique ecosystem of the lower terraces of the Wisconsin River valley. Eighty-foot-deep sand creates habitat for dry prairie plants, including Pennsylvania sedge, June grass, lupine, sand puccoon, butterfly weed, goat’s rue, and prickly pear. Come help us keep it open now and visit again in summer to see the reward!

What to Bring/Wear: Loppers and chemical provided, but your favorite tools are welcome. Dress for the weather. Lunch in the field provided.

Note: This will be a weather-dependent event, so please check in with Sue to confirm. We prefer little to no snow.
