EMPIRE-SAUK GRASSLAND & PRAIRIES
Dane County Field Trip
Saturday, July 22 – 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Location: Erbe Grassland & Prairies
Come spend a morning exploring 140 acres of both remnant and restored prairie with thousands of compass plants, and many other prairie flowers, on this TPE preserve. Grassland birds will still be present, so bring binoculars.
DIFFICULTY:
Moderate hiking over uneven terrain.
WHAT TO BRING:
Be prepared for a long hike off trail. We recommend long pants, sturdy shoes, and a hat.
DIRECTIONS:
Take US 18-151 west from Madison, at 1.5 miles west of Mt. Horeb, turn left (south) on Erbe Road. Go for 0.7 miles and look for the parking lot and kiosk on right side of the road (across from quarry).
TRIP LEADER:
If you plan to attend, please let the trip leader know at least 12 hours in advance, in case of changes in the schedule or cancelation due to severe weather, should they occur. Also contact them if you have questions.
