GLACIAL PRAIRIE WORK PARTY

Seed Collecting and Pulling Invasives

Thursday, June 27 – 10:00 a.m. to Noon

Location: Prairie Home Cemetery

One of the Glacial Prairie Chapter’s earliest efforts is likely the least well-known to chapter membership: The City of Waukesha’s Prairie Home Cemetery. In 2010 the (former) cemetery director hired a firm to plant 13 acres to prairie—3 of them dedicated to natural burial. Walter Mirk and Dick Bautz have worked on the site since being contacted by the then interim manager, who indicated pressure was mounting to return the area to mowed grass.

We need help keeping this prairie going by collecting seed to spread and pulling invasives!

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: Easy (seed collecting)

WHAT TO BRING:

Sturdy shoes, long pants and sleeves, work gloves, eye protection (sunglasses are ok), hat, insect repellant, and water.
