Benedict Prairie: Brush Removal

Saturday, March 25th – 9:00am to Noon

The Benedict Prairie Unit of The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Field Station consists of about six acres, 100 feet wide and one half mile long. It is on what was once a railroad right of way on the old Kenosha-Silver Lake-Beloit branch line of the Chicago Northwestern Railroad.

This is an iconic and rare mesic prairie that was actually inventoried in the 1950s by the famous professor John T. Curtis. Don’t miss your chance to work on this exceptional site.

We will continue work on this prairie by removing dense brush in the areas around and in the prairie.

Where to meet: I-94 to state hwy 50 (Kenosha/Lake Geneva exit) Hwy 50 west 1.5 miles to 144th Ave. South on 144th Ave 0.6 miles. Benedict Prairie is on the east side. There is a sign near the road.
