NORTHWEST ILLINOIS FIELD TRIP

Prairie Tour at Lake Carroll

Wednesday, June 25 – 9:00 a.m. to Noon

Location: Lake Carroll in Carroll County in Lanark, IL

The Prairie Club at the Lake Carroll Association has been busy since 2018 planting and discovering planted and remnant prairies within the 5,000 acre development. The club spends many hours clearing brush and invasive species on those 40+ acres and also grows native plants for home gardens as their fundraiser. But their mission is to educate members about the importance of native species for our ecosystem via newsletters, their own Facebook group, a kiosk, emails, and events throughout the year. Join the Northwest Illinois Chapter as we tour some of their many projects, from planted prairies to small remnants with unique plants. Our guides are past employees for the Northwest Illinois Chapter which their club leaders state inspired and motivated their cause.

There is a maximum of 15 people for this outing and registration is required. Please contact Laura Dufford to register for this event.

We hope you’ll join us as we see the progress this hard working group has accomplished!

WHAT TO BRING:
You are welcome to bring a sack lunch, their club will provide drinks and desserts and we can picnic while sharing questions and prairie stories. Dress for walking in tall grasses and bring water.

FIELD TRIP LEADER:
Contact Laura Dufford for any questions or concerns. In case of rain the tour will be rescheduled.

LOCATION:
We will meet at the Candlelight Restaurant parking lot at Lake Carroll. ( 29-11 Ironwood Dr, Lanark, IL)
