The Waushara Nature Fair is a great way to learn about, and from, nature organizations around us. Meet with volunteers from local organizations that support nature and the outdoors. Learn how to protect and expand the world’s rarest ecosystems, right here in Wisconsin, from The Prairie Enthusiasts. Learn how to incorporate native plants into your landscape that are adapted to our climate and soil type, and even start some plants from seed with Generation Native Plants, Waushara Gardeners, and The Wild Ones. Find out what native plants and seeds are available from the above organizations, Prairie Nursery, Prairie Moon Nursery, and government agencies. Get a demonstration on how to eradicate non-native invasive plants from the Golden Sands Resource Conservation & Developments Council’s Central Wisconsin Invasives Partnership (CWIP). If you own land and have created quality habitat, The North Central Conservancy Trust can help you protect that natural space forever.
Learn about birds and bird habitat improvement opportunities from SOS Save Our Songbirds and the Audubon Society and observe and identify birds near the World War II Building with these regional experts and enthusiasts. Find out how J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue helps to protect our local ecosystem and see some of the animals they have rescued and are available for adoption. Obtain information on area fish and fishing opportunities and make your own lure with Trout Unlimited. Take a look at some beekeeping equipment and learn how both honeybees and native bees help pollinate plants.
Grab maps for our six Waushara County Ice Age Trail Alliance (IATA) segments, and learn about the 1,200 miles of trail statewide. Consider outdoor volunteer opportunities in the county with the Ice Age Trail Alliance who maintains 23 miles of trails or the Waushara Gardeners who maintain 16 gardens and public spaces in the county.
