SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN WORK PARTY
Eldred Prairie Work Party
Tuesday, May 27 – 9:00 a.m. to Noon
Location: Eldred Prairie, Lancaster, WI
We have been making enormous strides to return Eldred Prairie to its original pre-settlement condition. Brushy growth, parsnip and sweet clover are being brought under control. The back slope, a dense thicket of brushy growth just a year ago, was forestry mowed and mostly cleared. We are making gains on the crown vetch and the bracken fern. We are turning these 45 acres into what Gary Eldred and others dreamed of when they acquired this parcel long ago. We need to continue the momentum to avoid losing what we have worked so hard to accomplish and make it better and better each year.
Following the work party, we will gather for lunch and conversation at The Coffee Tree in Lancaster. These gatherings are not just about work!
Focus of work party: Spot spray reemerging woody growth, such as honeysuckle, that is resprouting in the area that was forestry mowed.
WHAT TO BRING:
Please bring sprayers, whether backpack or hand held. We will try to have some extras if you do not have one. If you have extras, please bring them along and have them at least half full. If you have extra water, it would be good to bring that along as well. We will provide herbicide and some water to be mixed when you get here. For the bracken fern, please bring your brush cutters.

DIRECTIONS:
Eldred Prairie is located on Lincoln Road just east of Lancaster.
The easiest way to get there is by way of Highway 129, the highway that diverts Highway 61 traffic around the east side of Lancaster.
From the north, Lincoln Road is approximately 1 ½ miles south from the north intersection of 61 and 129. From the south, it is about 1 mile north of the south intersection of 61 and 129.
Drive east on Lincoln Road for about 2 miles. Eldred is on the north side of the road and is obviously a conservation area. The entrance gate is at the east end of the property at the top of the hill.
