There will be a workday at Garvin Heights to get the new burn unit (Unit #3, the lower bluff prairie) ready for a fall prescribed fire. There are many prairie plants in this remnant. A prescribed fire this fall is just the thing this prairie remnant needs.

We will clean up the fire brakes. We will either foliar spray invasive shrubs or cut and treat them. We will also cut and treat buckthorn in the burn unit especially where that might help with a better burn this fall. Finally, we may clear around desirable oak trees that we don’t want to be affected by the burn.

WHAT TO BRING:
Participants should wear or bring the following:

• Hydrating liquids and snacks to keep them healthy and happy
• Insect repellent and sunscreen
• Work gloves, and preferably boots, long pants, and long-sleeved shirts.

We will have a backpack herbicide sprayer, a couple of handheld herbicide sprayers, herbicide, some daubers, gloves, and a few clippers that can be used by all.

Please bring any equipment you might have and want to use, such as brush cutters or loppers.
