Location: Crow-Hassan Park Reserve in Rogers, MN
Join us for our second annual Minnesota Oak Savanna Chapter prairie seed collection event at Three Rivers Park District’s premier prairie complex in Crow-Hassan Park Reserve! This work party is free to attend and open to beginners. Event is limited to 30 participants so please register to reserve your spot.
This event is free, but pre-registration is required and attendance is limited to 30 people.

Moely Prairie Tree Cutting and Brush Piling Workday
Saturday, August 15 – 9:00 a.m. to Noon
Location: Moely Prairie in Prairie du Sac, WI
Join us this month as we continue to clean up existing invasive trees and shrubs in various units of the prairie. For those of you who can bring a chainsaw, there is plenty of larger regrowth to cut on the west side of the prairie. If using loppers is more your speed, there’s plenty of smaller invasives to cut as well.
For the past nine years, dedicated volunteers have been hard at work on this 23.5-acre remnant prairie, steadily clearing invasive trees and brush. Nestled right in the heart of Prairie du Sac, Moely Prairie is both unique and accessible, offering a quiet spot to hike, cross-country ski, or snowshoe. It also serves as a living classroom, providing hands-on educational and citizen science opportunities for students and community members alike. Thanks to these efforts, we’ve watched the prairie’s native plant inventory grow from just 70 species to more than 200 through ongoing restoration and prescribed burns—a testament to what community care can achieve.

WHAT TO BRING:
Please wear long sleeves, long pants and sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Bring your own work gloves and your favorite equipment if you wish (loppers, chainsaws, etc.). Extra loppers and herbicide will be available for use. Water bottles are highly recommended.

Weed Seed Production Beds at Mounds View Grassland
Saturday, August 1 – 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Location: Mounds View Grassland in Barneveld, WI
Come for as long as you can. These production beds are critical to providing seeds and bulbs/roots for the restoration work at Mounds View Grassland and other The Prairie Enthusiasts preserves. Species being propagated are wood lily, prairie phlox, yellow star-grass, violet wood sorrel, prairie violet, blue-eyed grass, and others.
WHAT TO BRING:
Bring your favorite weeding tool and knelling pad, if you have them. Otherwise, they will be provided.

Seed Collection in Waukesha County

Location: Near the Ice Age Trail at Wilton Road in Eagle, WI
Save the date for native seed collection near the Ice Age Trail at Wilton Road in Eagle. Collected seeds will be used to help restore prairies on DNR lands in southeast Wisconsin. More details will be provided in the Glacial Prairie Chapter September work party email and posted to the event calendar (sign up for the Glacial Prairie Chapter eNews HERE).

Benedict Prairie Site Improvement
Saturday, September 26 – 9:00 a.m. to Noon
Location: Benedict Prairie, Kenosha County
This work day will likely be pulling invasive species.
DIFFICULTY: Easy-moderate (some uneven ground). Cutting or dragging brush can be difficult in some areas.
WHAT TO BRING:
Bring drinking water. Please wear long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy, closed-toed footwear. Feel free to bring your own gloves and eye protection.
